Saigon, 1930. Eliane Devries dirige une gigantesque plantation d’arbres à caoutchouc. Tout son amour est voué à sa fille adoptive, Camille, jeune princesse vietnamienne. Un bel officier français, Jean-Baptiste Le Guen, va bouleverser leurs vies. Lorsqu’il est exilé dans les îlots lointains, Camille part à sa recherche. Elle découvrira alors son propre pays, fait de passion, de violence et de mort. Une fois réunis, les deux amants embrassent la cause du nationalisme vietnamien…
