Lorsque le fils de Jodie Walsh, âgé de 4 ans, disparait lors d’un pique-nique au bord du lac, il est présumé noyé. Son corps n’a jamais été retrouvé. Pourtant 9 ans plus tard, lorsque Jodie aperçoit un adolescent sur le chemin de l’école, elle en est convaincue, c’est lui ! La vie qu’elle a minutieusement reconstruite pendant tant d’années est ébranlée mais elle est prête à tout pour prouver qu’elle a raison. Va-t-elle convaincre la police et sa propre famille que l’homme qui s’occupe actuellement du garçon n’est pas son père mais son ravisseur ?
